Once you have your data out of the big services and cleaned up, it needs to live somewhere you control. This guide covers moving your archive to Any NAS (network folder).

How to map a network drive ->

Step by step

  1. Create a folder on the NAS

    In your NAS admin panel, make a shared folder for your archive, for example Photos or Archive. Give your account read and write access.

  2. Connect it to your computer

    On Windows, open File Explorer, right-click This PC and choose Map network drive, then enter the path to the share. On macOS, use Finder, then Go, then Connect to Server, and enter smb://nas-name/sharename.

  3. Copy your cleaned library across

    Save the organized folders from Muletto straight onto the mapped drive. Keep the year and month structure so the archive stays browsable without any app.

  4. Verify the copy

    Check that the file count and total size match before deleting anything from your computer. The Muletto desktop app verifies each file by checksum as it writes.

  5. Set up a backup

    A NAS is one copy, not a backup. Add a second copy on an external drive or a service you trust, so a single failure cannot lose everything.

Worth knowing

Keep the folder structure plain, such as Year and Month, rather than locking your archive inside one app database. Plain folders can be read by anything, for a very long time.
If your NAS supports snapshots or versioning, turn them on so an accidental delete can be undone.
